Thanked: 0Shapton Ceramic Stones - Getting the Best Edge
I just purchased a set of Shapton Ceramic Stones from 1000 to 16000. I'm having trouble finding the correct hold & swiping pattern to get a HHT Edge. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Razorwire, it could be any number if issues at any one of you new stones. It might be helpful if you tell us what you are doing. What sort on strokes are you using?
Glen (gssixgun) has some awesome honing vids on YouTube which you should check out.

Start there, and watch the other two as well, that should make for a good start. I have 1-2-3-4-6-8-10-16-30k Shapton GS and couldn't be happier. Incredibly consistent results.

One more question: do you think its necessary to go all the way up (down?) to 30,000? The 30K stone is quite expensive.

No, the 30k sure isn't necessary for achieving killer edges, I just got my 30k last week and was really happy with what I got from the 16k. But the results off the 30 is just the "little extra"...
Try 10 laps n CrOx after the 16k as well, really makes for a nice and smooth edge if you do it right.

Sorry, I'm new to all of this, is CrOX Chromium Oxide? If, so, is it a "sandpaper"? Or is it a stone or something else entirely?
