Time to start SRAD
Ok, I am down about 10 shaves now. I can make a fair lather with Proraso products, even using the pre a post products, love it. I can shave all of my face now with no nicks, can even use my left hand now. I started with the sight unseen setup from whipped dog, a GREAT deal for all noobs to jump on.
I am ready to move up to a better razor and strop I think. I am looking at a Dovo Best Quality 6/8, with strop from SRD. Would this be a good place to move into for a gppd shaver? The FREE honing for life is a major plus.

+1 to this....now to ramble on....
If it's a blade you like the look of and is a quality brand GET IT! as with most things in this art a lot of it is personal preference. The great thing with SRD is that they TRULY love what they do there, give them a call or email and they will love helping and chatting about their products and which will be right for you! When I started a few months ago with this I bought a bunch of different sizes, brands and grinds of razor and I'm still finding what I do and don't like about some. Ultimately it's your technique and how you use the tools that make a great shave!! You could have a $1000 custom razor and have a horrid shave if the technique isn't there. Is that to say new razors don't make it more enjoyable? NO! but razor choice is a very personal thing so work on the technique and enjoy the ride because it's a fun one!! So my vote would be go for it! Free honing for life is an AWESOME deal and you really can't go wrong with anything from SRD!!

I agree on the razor. However, IMHO, the best deal on a super quality strop is the star shaving 3" Big Daddy Chestnut strop.
*my 2 cents*
Mike-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanked: 1936You can't go wrong with any product at SRD & the packaged deals are really good deals...then you have the honings from Lynn. I highly recommend this over something off one of the auction sites where you are taking a chance. With SRD, there is no "chance" involved, period.

Well, I received my razor and strop today. FANTASTIC. Put on Proraso preshave, lathered with Proraso soap and went for it. Finished with some Thayers lavender witch hazel. Stol in the learning stage, but I am rather proud of the results. Still working on technique, but slow progress for sure.
Just ordered my Dirty Bird scuttle to keep my lather warm. Can't wait for that item to arrive.
The wife and I went to a local flea market and found some old straights. I didn't buy any. Still don't. Know enough for that. But was fun to look.
