Default Anybody with perfect shave and honing for the first time?

    Hi Everyone,

Just curious, how many of you had a super successful shave with a straight razor the very first time? I mean, successful, as way better than like a Mach cartridge? Also on the side note, how many of you had a true successful HHT when honing for the first time?

Have a great day and God bless.

I had a better-than-m3 shave my first time, though it wasn't as good as I could get with a DE. My third shave was *much* better than DE quality, and I didn't attain that level of shave again for many months.

My first shave was better than anything else. The honing, well...that took a bit more practice.

My first shave with a straight was lousy because I was clumsy with the stropping.

2nd and 3rd were much better, and they continue to improve after a couple weeks.

The mach 3 still gives me better results on my neck where the whiskers grow sideways. It's easy to go against the grain there on a 3rd pass with the M3 and I'm still working on strokes to be able to shave as close there with a straight.

A straight shave leaves my skin smoother though, where the M3 might get some of the tougher whiskers a little closer it leaves the skin rougher.

Realy good shave first time but with honing I can never pass the hanging hair test - even with the razors that I have bough pre honed from the guys on this site although they do shave wonderfully

Not all hairs are the same, so some just won't take to the HHT no matter what you do to the blade.

I would say I was shaving about a month before I got shaves equal to a DE but maybe 2 weeks to better the cartridge razors.

    Honing takes awhile grasshopper.

    Not me...
It was good but I am very left handed and that side of my face turned out pretty good but I have a ways to go with my right hand. I want to be a two handed shaver and not reaching across my face with the left hand and not getting a good mirror view. I have been an electric shaver for a long time and therefore had developed into a lazy shaver. I will say that even though the right side of my face still needed work, there was no razor burn or discomfort. Pushing and pulling an electric back and forth and up and down always left me with irritation.

Not I! I kinda struggled through the first few with a combination of poor technique, trepidation/uncertainty and a healthy general fear of performing involuntary plastic surgery upon my ruggedly handsome visage...

But, I'm going on about 6 weeks now, and it just keeps getting better and better. I now get insanely close (not to mention very relaxing) shaves and have become a proud practitioner of daily "faceturbation"(*)...! I'll admit - I still cheat a little bit when it comes to cleaning up around my goatee and parts of my neck - my Merkur Futur DE is always nearby for those challenging areas. But I'm gradually weaning myself off it, more or less, and getting used to an ambidextrous shave.

Actually, the learning experience is all part of the appeal for me. Shaving in this new/old manner in essence forces me to slow down, take my time and really savor the process in all its time-honored glory. Try getting that feeling with a Gillette Mach 47 Power Blaster and Turbo Booster Jet Foam Gel for Sensitive Skin...

(*) BTW - whoever coined that term... Genious!

My first honing and shave was ok, about as good as a dulling Track II, but a quick coaching from Lynn and by my third shave it was sublime.
