Thanked: 0Back in the Saddle...Kind of
Maybe not exactly in the saddle, but I can see horses from where I am.
A few months back I decided that I did not have time to devote to straight razor shaving. So I switched exclusively to using a DE. The problem was that I actually really liked shaving with a straight, I just did not care for stropping and honing. Last week I discovered about $30 I had forgotten about in my Paypal acct and decided to order a Dovo Shavette. I figured it would be close enought to satisfy my desire to use a straight razor without breaking the bank or needing alot of maintenance.
It arrived in the mail today. Started off on my left cheek (I'm left handed) no problem. Went to my right cheek, using my right hand, no problem. Again no problem on the left side of my neck. The problems really started when I shaved the right side of my neck. Wow, I really burned my neck. I am pretty sure I was using to much pressure and the angle was off. After this I decided to finish with a DE.
I'm pretty sure I just need to slow down and think about what I am doing.
Oh well, It's good to be back.

I started off using a shavette and same, it used to burn the crap out of my neck . One of the members here said that sometimes the blades can be to sharp. I found that after a few uses it wouldn't be as bad. I also found that after moving to a real straight that the burning has pretty much stopped.

I think I will try again in a couple days with a different brand of blade, ( I used a feather DE which are supposedly the sharpest you can buy) and really take my time focusing on very little to no pressure.

Once a blade is already sharp, it doesn't take much to touch it up on the hone. As for stropping, again it's only a small portion of the shave time.
