Thanked: 0Second raze
Yesterday I shaved for the first time with a straight razor. It felt amazing. Originally I planned to just start of with my right cheek but that went quite easy so I just did the entire shave with my straight razor. (of course only WTG) I survived with only a few nicks on my chin and a couple of not that greatly shaven parts. My skin felt so smooth and nice.
As the experience of yesterday was so great, I thought lets do it again today. The shave went okay about the same amount of nicks ( maybe a bit more 'cause I got overconfident) but now my face feels irritated, I guess it's razor burn (I never had razor burn). Is this because I shaved to soon again?
Should I have waited longer to shave, like 2 days instead of 1?
The warm water on my face stinged and the aftershave stinged for a bit and then made it better but now an hour later my face still feels a bit irritated and sensitive.
Is my face just getting used to the straight razor?
I am looking forward to learn how to shave. I browsed a bit on SRP and this community is great.

Hello salomob, as a new str8 razor shaver, I went through the same thing. I think I used a bit too much pressure in the first few shaves. I had to shave morning, then next day at night, to keep the razor burn down. The after balm helped a lot and later better technique. I just accepted the not bbs shave and finish with the DE.
Now I'm doing WTG, XTG and ATG (in some parts) and is given me a better shave. Not BBS but good to go to work with. If I want BBS, I still go for the DE, but I have to be carefull with razor burn. So in order to use the str8 every day, I don't try to go for a very close shave every day.
I say if you need to skip a day, do it, or alternate day and night, if you can. Use a good after shave balm. And keep hacking at it like I'm doing! From a newb to a newb sincerely, Double O
