Honing
I've read numerous threads on here, but have not seen anyone yet ask this question, so I thought I would give it a try. I've only been shaving with a straight razor since around last June, to which I have done (some) research on, including what I have read on SRP. I'm familiar with what a company, where you purchase your razor, calls "shave ready" and then one that is professionally honed. I have not experienced the professionally honed razor yet, only the "shave Ready" I got when I bought my razor. I bought the Norton 4/8, which I read was a good stone for beginners, and have made attempts to do it myself. However, without experiencing a pro honed razor, I have nothing to compare how I'm doing, to what a pro honed razor is like. My question is, I would like to find someone close to my area, who does honing and that comes with good referance. I'm trying to avoid having to mail my razors out to someone. Does anyone know of a pro honer in my area, who would be willing to hone my razor for me ?

Thanked: 1587I don't, but there is the Member's Map where you can see who lives close to you. You could then try to cross-match that with people offering honing in the classifieds. If you are lucky a honer might match someone close to you.

Thanked: 1936James pretty much summed it up, besides...if you can find someone to "show" you how to hone would cut your learning experience exponentially. Having a razor that is pro honed is very important to keep around as a bench-mark as well.

Thanks, but Spokane is several hundred miles from me. Preferably someone on this side of the mountains, in the Tacoma area.

Thanked: 13245You limited yourself when you said "Pro" which leaves you only one person even close to you Me
Send a PM to Pinklather/Rob he is a guy that hones, and he is on your side of the state, he will be able to show you quite a few tricks of the stone and get you moving along quite well..
Dieghaingeal/Gerrit is also over by you and knows his way around a hone...
This is a link to last year's meetups please keep an eye out for the one coming this year

I appreciate the offer, however, if your near the Spokane area, your over 300 miles from me. If I can't find someone on this side of the mountain, I'll have to watch for the next convention closer to the coast.
