Thanked: 46some edges look less wide
My 5/8 Waterville Cutlery razor made in the 1870's has a very thin very shiny and sharp edge...just noticed it looked less wide..bottom to top width..than my 6/8 German razor made in the 1920's..guess its a character of different steel and edges after being rehoned..ill try to post some pics

Thanked: 1587Pics would help because at the moment what I am understanding you to say is that your 5/8 Waterville looks narrower than your 6/8 German razor. I am pretty sure that is not what you mean
Edit: oh, I see - the edge is narrower. Yes bevel width varies a lot and generally is more related to the razor geometry and grind than it is to the width of the razor. Other things that can affect it is hone wear.

Thanked: 485I think he's talking about the actual edge, not the width of the razor. This would be a product of the thickness of the spine, wouldn't it?

Thanked: 247Just wanted to say I'm jealous of your Waterville. All my bevels look different, in accordance with what the other members have already posted. Not that anybody needed me to cosign. lol. .

Thanked: 247Off topic, but not especially. I've had a soft spot for Watervilles ever since I lost my first Ebay bidding war. I have plenty of big German and English blades. What I don't have is a Waterville...
