Honing
Posted a thread several days ago, looking for someone in the Tacoma Washington surrounding area that knows how to hone a straight razor. I'm trying to avoid having to mail my razors out and would like to experience a razor that has been honed by someone who knows how to do it. So far, I've only experienced a "shave ready" razor. Have tried honing myself, with a Norton 4/8, but not sure I'm getting the technique down. I have nothing to compare my honing to, with someone who knows how to do it, only a "shave ready razor." Is there, or does anyone know, someone in the greater Tacoma area that I can use, or teach me how ?

You can always try the member map to see who lives in the area and them send them a PM. I know there are a few members in the SeaTac area and if you don't mind the drive there are some in and around Yakima area. Research the map then reach out and PM someone.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Thanked: 96Have you looked in the community section, at the google map of members? Once you find a member, search their posts, if they are knowledgable about honing in some of them, send them a PM. It is possible they are just not frequent checkers of the forum and I think if they get a PM an email would be sent to them.
I am a little confused, do you have a shave ready razor, or did you have a shave ready razor when you began but is no longer shave ready? If you have one you could use it as a benchmark, or you could go get a double edge at the store, once your razor matches its sharpness youre there. There are lots of videos on the subject of honing around this site, try a search.
Iirc, Glen(gssixgun) already offered to help in your other thread, it would be worth every mile you had to travel to have a one on one with him, he is one of the most knowledgable members around here and there is no question why he is a mentor in the honing sections, some of the video's I mentioned earlier are his and I highly recommend watching them. In my mind one has to figure what that knowledge would be worth to you, would knowing how to hone for the rest of your life, be worth a quick trip across the state?
