Default Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin

    because there isn't any today.

    Any pointers on chins?

I started wet shaving again back in August, high on my bucket list was using a straight razor so I dove in about six weeks ago.

I actually like the shaves I get from the SR better than DE razors and FAR and away above what I'd been doing with electrics for 25 years plus.

So I've used several razors already (off the top of my head a couple of Dovos, a Cutlery World, Frog high manganese steel razor and today a Dahlgren, thanks to Zephyr), 5/8 and 6/8 and I'm really struggling with getting my chin shaved.

It's not a Kirk Douglas cleft chin, not huge like Jay Leno's, just a normal central european/irish mix chin.

Maybe I'm not stretching enough, but I'm finding myself doing a WTG pass, fully lathered (lately with Irisch Moos), focusing on angle of attack, light to no pressure, and I frequently "have to" make many little "make up" passes to
get the parts I miss during the ensuing XG and ATG passes. More than a couple times I've resorted to (*GASP) using a Feather AS DE for the final shave. Cheating, not satisfying.

Funny thing, the Dahlgren REALLY did a great job today and I couldn't help notice how with the heavier blade and what feels like a MUCH SHARPER blade (thanks again to Zephyr), the passes were a little easier and the final outcome smoother. Just one small nick on my upper lip.

Any tips on working with chins?

    Default

watch the angle, and light touch...

Mostly just takes a lot of practice. Been a year and a half, still learning!!

I mostly shave wtg. I bring the blade down my chin and just under, then from just above to finish the neck. Short little swipes seem to work best.

    Best of luck,
    Jeff.
