Dirtybird Scuttle
Hey guys,
I just ordered my Dirtybird 1.5 Scuttle. I have never used a scuttle before, but this thing looks pretty cool. Any tips or advice? Thanks from a noob!

Stick with hot tap water, don't use boiling, which will ruin any lather.
Bonus feature: Use with really cold water for those hot summer days, so refreshing with cold lather on your face.

Not to be contradictory, but I actually do use boiling water, although I don't recommend it until you get used to your scuttle and your lathers. However, I find an uberlather can handle it. Also, I have the web crosshatching on mine, so making lather really is too easy. If the lather dries out I easily add more water and I'm good to go, even when I'm not uberlathering.
I am careful when I wash it out afterwards, not pouring cold tap water into it. I'm sure it's tough and won't crack but I'm still mindful of shock-cooling it. When I wash it out I tend to leave the inner bowl full, wash out the outer bowl, and then pour out the boiling hot water last. This has the added beneficial side effect of keeping lather out of the inner bowl, since it's full of water already.
So feel free to experiment.

I use boiling water, but I don't build lather with it...
My routine is thus:
1) Fill chamber and bowl with boiling water, dunk brush in it then go take shower
2) When I get out of the shower, empty the bowl and chamber, refil with HOT tap water, build lather etc...
Works for me

Thanked: 17I use hot tap water. Fill the holding tank and the bowl and soak my brush while I shower. Pour that water out then refill the holding tank and build my lather. I did find that the lathering technique is a bit different with the hot scuttle than with a cold bowl. But boy is it worth it.
Love my Dirty Bird 1.5 Scuttle. It may be a luxury that is not absolutely necessary but I'm worth it. LOL

YMMV, but I like to build my lather in the bowl FIRST...then fill the tank with hot tap water. I find it's easier to keep it stable.
Adding water first made it more difficult to start and build lather. Again, my personal observations...
Enjoy the DB, I love mine!
