Thanked: 485Wow. Two point five years and three point two four eight eight six nine since I started shaving with a straight razor according to me when I started shavign with a straight razor spreadsheet.
Things haven't changed a lot actually. I now have seven straights; six that I use regularly in rotation, two DEs and the same hones shown in the original post. I've tried a few aftershaves and creams and soaps but not all that many; as they last so long. Currently my favorite cream is TOBS Rose.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I find it slightly depressing to add up how much I've spent in less than a year lol. A few thousand dollars, and apart from the paddle strop, all fit into a large tupperware container lol...
But I do love using a different nice razor each shave, and it doesn't look like prices are going backwards in a hurry, so guess I can recover the money if I had to...
On the other hand, I can see that I've ONLY spent a few thousand, yet have a nice collection of antique items with history that I can both admire visually and enjoy using. A few thousand can disappear like a fart in the breeze on a single pice of art... nice to look at but not much good for anything else. Plus I really enjoy hunting down razors for sale, taking some downtime and browsing this forum etc.
If I could go back in time to the fork in the road before discovering straight shaving, knowing what it would cost etc, I would still take the path less travelled, and take up this hobby. It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

carlmaloschneider -- As an accountant (ok not really, but I can count and do basic mathematics), I can certify that once you passed 3.248799 you started saving money. Therefore, you are officially in the black! Congratulations!!

Thanked: 375OMG! Carl, you only have one shaving brush, and one strop? What if the knot pops out of the handle or you strop a razor while angry and hack it to worthlessness

No, carl does actually "strop on" his jeans, it is an unusual condition that afflicts the indecisive whereby you pull your trousers on, but before you button them you think another pair of trousers would be better, but once they are at ankle level you decide that actually they are right so you pull them back up, sufferers usually repeat this process 40-80 times, and in extreme cases will change into a pair of leather jeans after and repeat 40-80 times also.

Thanked: 485I've actually got TWO strops, but yes, only one brush... And i think Ed's referring to my general indecisiveness. i WAS going to say in the post just above what my favorite after shave was at the moment but couldn't decide...
