here come the questions!
Good Morning all.
Well here I am about to ask the Rookie questions. I have watched all the videos, read everything I can find, so now the questions.
I read that the razor should be held 15o when 30 degrees when shaving OK, 30 degrees from what? flat or 90 degrees from face?
Next well this is my fault I'm sure but what I have to shave with is an EdgeMark razor, and I gotta tell you, I am having one h@@@ if a time getting a edge on it. I don't (as yet) have all the hones I should have(but I do engrave so I have some), so I'm not sure the bevel is set correctly. Does anyone know of anywhere in Central California that sharpens razors? I live not far from Bill "billy " Ellis, and he is a friend of a friend but I do not know if he sharpens, or just makes really cool razors.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated, my face would thank you I'm sure.

For a beginner at straight razor shaving, honing is a catch 22.
The only real test for sharpness is the shave test, actually shaving with it. And if you don't yet have it down pat, you will never know if the problems you are having are due to the sharpness of the blade, or your technique.
Many beginners have taken a straight razor that was sold to them as "shave ready" that really wasn't. This can cause endless frustration!

The 15-30 degree angle is only a guideline . The best way to find the best angle is to start low , with the spine almost touching your face , and increase it slowly until you find what shaves your face best . 30 degrees is the max up from flat on your face , that you should go . Since there is no practical way to measure the actual angle you're shaving at , estimating the angle will work fine .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .
