Another Newbie Thread
Good afternoon gents.
I've had my uncle hone all my razors up until now, I purchased the Norton starting kit with the lapping stone, 220/1000, 4000/8000 and prep stone.
I followed instructions I've seen all over YouTube and I tried to do it to the T.
My razor just was NOT sharp enough. I tried to shave and had to grab a damn Mach3 after just two stroked because it was pulling all my hair out instead of cutting.
What I did:
-Soaked each stone for 30 minutes
-Drew pencil grid on all stones (one at a time)
-Lapped until pencil marks were gone (maybe I didn't lap enough?)
-Prepped each stone
-Added water
-Began honing
I did the same process for each stone, 15-20 passes each.
It did not pass the loose hair test.
Any tips gentlemen? Am I just going to have to practice until I become better?
Note: I noticed as I was on each stone that it seemed my razor did not sit completely flat against the stone, I could see space between the stone and razor. Is it possible that my razor is not straight? I'm betting more than likely I did not lap enough. Reading just a quick glance at some threads I see members have lapped their stones for HOURS??!! Really? HOURS??!!
I appreciate any help!
