    Default Knives?!?

HI! I joined the forum a while back and I am not very active on it but now it seems I have a question.

I looked around hoping there might be a small subsection of the forum where someone might talk of Knives. A relative recently passed and he liked knives.... like his room is packed with things and every time we open a box or drawer there are more knives.

Because every time I pop up here you all seem very helpful and nice I was hoping someone that is in to knives could help me out.

Does any one suggest a forum, A place to sell them, how to sell them. What to look for ect. My aunt has been looking them up online and gaining a lot of information but it would be nice to have some input from a 'professional'/ 'seasoned knife collector'. Were not quite sure what we want to do with them but we want to look at our options.

ALSO the biggest question is, is there any illegal issues we need to think about? We though about bringing them places but some are quite large and wondering if there was a law about how many one could carry, what is not allowed to be sold ect....

Thanks a bunch for any info! BTW we are located in SF California so any local suggestions would be nice too!

The best book out there is Levine's Guide to Knives. Anything worth collecting and the relative values will be in there. There were a couple active groups of collectors in the Bay area, the BAKCA and the Northern California Knife Collectors Association. I haven't kept up with them, but there was one or two shows each year. The one I remember was in San Jose but I admit it was years ago.

Search for the thread "Combat Knives" and "EDC knives" on this forum.

Another thing to consider is what type of knives ? Are they fixed blade or folding ? If fixed are they combat type or hunting ? Custom or factory ? Maker's marks on the blades can also direct you to an appropriate forum. If you're curious about value, we don't do appraisals here on SRP, ebay is a good barometer of the current market for anything. I always do a search and then go to the menu on the left and check 'completed items.'
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I attend a lot of gun shows, and there are always several tables with nothing but knives ranging from cheap junk to very expensive Randal, Lile, Bone, and many custom knives, and every thing in between. Tables at these shows are reasonable in price, and the chamber of commerce in your town will have information of coming shows in your town. Also shows are listed on the internet on a nation wide basis. Just type in 'gun show'. Very Best, John
