Default looking for a mentor in western washington area

I am getting deeper and deeper in to straight shaving and would like to talk to someone face to face about shaving, razor choice, stropping, etc. There are many members on SRP, but I have yet to meet another Straight Shaver. Makes me feel like I am alone.

Art, 'Couldn't agree more that your best bang for the time and money will be to attend one of the meets.

Should your travels take you near the People's Republic of Portland, let me know. Come over & try blades, stones.

There's boatloads of help to be had. The spring meet is in Yakima IIRC. You'll find the host knows his way aroung a blade also (rude understatement). Get guys excited about their toys, and you get ALOT of help. This is certainly no exception. Great attitudes.

You have guys in Portland, Yakima, Walla Walla. If you're in Seattle area, that makes them a few hours drive, but my bet is that it would be time and money well spent.

If I can be of help, pls. let me know.

    Default Yakima, walla walla, portland

I'm thinking about going to the Spring meet, But I north of Marysville in Washington, some 200 miles away from Yakima. Being a struggling collage student, I can't just go such great distences without my making my wallet suffer. I do go down to Portland from time to time (have friends in Battle Ground, Wa) so Maybe next time I'm in the area I could get ahold of someone in the area.

I was trying to strop a razor today. Is the razor supposed to make this dull ringing sound when the edge comes into contact with the strop? I was wondering if I am pressing to hard?

That is how you end up in a bathtub full of ice with one kidney missing my friend.

there is a point to what you are saying, but I sell/buy a great deal of stuff on craigslist. I have dealt with almost every trick in the book, which is why I always meet in Starbucks, never go alone, and drive around with one of those bill markers that check for counterfiet. I am not saying to let me into somebody's house on first meet. Just go out, get some coffee and talk str8s.
