    Default crox balsa and scratches

I croxed a balsa board this weekend and turned out nicely except for a spot where it seemed to have a clump. I used 600 grit sandpaper on glass like I would lap a stone. So I tried to lap it again and reapply the crox mixed with Fromm strop dressing. Now I have scratches on it. Should I just chuck the board and crox the backside of one of my English bridle strop? I would post a pic but, the scratches don't show up.

Describe the clump and also, you might want to look into a higher grit sand paper to remove teh scratches. Speaking of scratches, are they in the balsa?

You could glue a new piece of balsa over the old one; if you elect to do that, spread the glue evenly on the old surface, apply a piece of wood over the new strip with the clamps on it to create a lamination. Tite Bond woodworker's glue is the best for laminating.

it was almost comparable to a paint clump. the scratches seem to be in the wood. Not very deep and run north to south on the board, not across.

Sounds like the CrOx had some undissolved material. Again, I suggest you go with a finer grit paper to see if you can work out the scratches. I would do so many laps in a North & South direction, then the same number of laps in the South to North direction.

Balsa wood is quite soft and porous so it may be a little bit of a challenge to remove all the scratches. When you apply the CrOx, try doing three dots spaced out on the surface and work it in with a tissue, not a cloth or paper towel. That may fill in whatever fine scratches that are remaining.
