Cool Shaving with the 5/8 Otto Fromm "Red Head" Glen taught me to restore/hone

This past Tuesday, I had the amazing opportunity to spend the day learning how to hone razors with Glen Mercurio (GSSixGun) at his place north of Sandpoint. This barber of mine sent his Fromm 5/8 50 "Red Head" up with me to see if we could better edge than the last guy who touched it. My biggest failure was not taking a before picture of this one-time filthy, pitted and chipped razor. I had no idea that after Glen taught me how to remove the chips - maybe a half-dozen bread-knife passes on the Chosera 1k - and a decent honing by a noob even, that this razor now shines like in the picture.

I shaved with the Red Head this morning with the intention of finishing up using the Dobson kamisori, but I had such a pleasurable time using the Red Head that I just kept going.

Thanks again, Glen, if you happen to see this post. I owe you both a dinner in Spokane next time you're in town.

Nice. I'd always wondered about the fromm red head razor, thanks.

I would really love to keep this razor now, but I suspect that when Marc sees his blade like new again, its days with me will be numbered. He's supposed to fetch the blade tomorrow over espresso.
