    That's probably the best course of action. It seems like we've divided into two camps - there are those who think that your cream is the problem, and those who suspect your razor. I said the cream mainly because you said you broke out - not that you got wicked razor burn.

    But, eliminate one variable at a time until you figure out what it is that's causing your irritation. Given the brush you're using, though, you're not going to get much softer, so I doubt it's that, so I'd say keep that one until last.

    yeah its definitely irritation..the razor is definitely not that smooth . the guy i bought it from said it was shave ready so i thought it was. this is my first straight razor so what the hell did i know?

    could be irritation from the soap's fragrance as i think i have a history of being sensitive to fragranced soaps.

    im gonna get a non fragranced soap and get my razor honed. is there a non frgranced soap? can i just use regular soap like dove?
