    Default Hi from England

Just signed up and wanted to say Hi.

I am so amazed at finding this site - all the information needed to start having a go with a straight razor.

Using straights has all but vanished over here. I can't think of any stores where I live that sell razors anymore. There are few in London and places like that that sell 'Exclusive' (= V.Expensive!) Gents accessories, thats about all!

I collect knives, and love sharpening and honing them, and I have often thought about using a straight to shave with, but to be honest have never known how or where to begin. thanks to this site, I do now!

Welcome! If I can be of any help, please feel free to PM me or email. I'm sure if there's ever a question you have, someone here can answer it.

And lucky for you, you can kill two birds with one stone. We love razors here, but we also have 2 world-class knifemakers (Bill Ellis and new member Darrell Ralph) and at least one half-assed knifemaker (me).

    Hey there.

There are a few of us folks from the UK here, but as you say it's pretty rare to find straight shavers these days.

If you're interested in knives etc then straight razor shaving is probably something you'd enjoy. It's more of a hobby or passion than just a chore you have to do every morning!

Btw this place is very good if you need any bits and bobs and are based in the UK. http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/

Welcome Effigy, you've found the right place for sure.

Warning though....Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated into the SRP collective.

    Hi Effigy,

You live in a great part of the world - Worcestershire, right? I always regretted the fact that, when we lived in England, I never took advantage of all the antique stores to rummage around for old cutthroats. Oh well.

Anyway, welcome. I second what everyone else has said - friendly, helpful, and knowledgable people haunt this patch of the ether. Jump in and enjoy the ride!

    James.
