    Default decision time

Had a long talk with Will at Classic Shaving, and he recommends the Feather as a great razor for a newbie, but he does issue the appropriate caveats re sharpness, etc.
then, another long talk with Tony Miller, who, needless to say, recommends the regular straights, and feels that stropping (and indeed even honing) is something I could learn in time.
Then, I paid careful attention to your posts--what you were saying, and how you were saying it, and, ....(drum roll please)..
I ordered the starter set from Tony. He has a new Dovo razor that he's just starting to offer, and he feels it's a good one. He also makes plain that somewhere down the road I won't want to stop there, but will order more, and more, and more. ... Now why does that not surprise me?
anyway, I have to thank you for all your help. That's the purpose of this forum, and you really came through for me. You're a terrific crew! I hope to be able to repay your good advice by offering the same to some other newbie.
My new razor should be arriving sometime next week, and I'll let you know how the first trial goes.
    thanks again,
    Eric

You've made a good choice in shaving method and vendor. Feathers are too harsh for my tastes and in any case don't give the satisfaction of maintaining your own toys. Ofcourse, shopping at Tony's is always a positive experience, so you've won on that count as well.

thanks for the encouragement. I should mention that I ordered the stropping paddle rather than the belt. Based on my discussion with Tony, I felt that was the way to go at this time.
BTW--I notice you're in Etobicoke. Home is Orillia.

I've been there a few times. Got friends in Sudbury and North Bay and I go camping in Algonquin, so Orillia is sort of on the way. So how come you moved south of the border?

Eric, I think you absolutely made the right choice. You won't regret it. Just be careful of the razor addiction that might follow.

    Good luck. Keep us updated.
