Thanked: 46Cant get my new razor clean
bought this cheap from ebay..but the pics shown were of it being shiny and no pics taken of the back of the razor..so I got the razor today..here are the pics I took...left silver polish on it for 30 minutes wiped it off..didnt make a dent in cleaning any of the tarnish or pitting..or whatever is on the razor..I have a money back refund option from the seller

I would try some 1k grit wet and dry and get all of the crap off and then a piece of 2k wet and dry and then a dab of Mass rubbed in and off, polish as often as needed. Or you can complain to the vendor.

I would use some #0000 steel wool and metal polish(not silver polish) like Maas or Flitz. Spread the metal polish on the blade and then scrub with the steel wool.

Looks better. Keep at it and finish up with just the metal polish and a rag. It won't get rid of any pitting but will shine it up nice.

Great advice from Theseus & Nun2sharp, that is what I do.
I also found this item, by luck, at Sally's Beauty Supplies. The stores are all over down here.
It is a buffer with two sides, one more abrasive than the other. When I'm done with 0000 or high grit paper, this buffer polishes out any marks made by the paper or steel wool. it removes a lot of stains, high grit scratches; works easy on the spine, tang & tail of the blades. A little difficult on hollows, great on wedges. You just use a dish soap on it and wash the residue away, dries fast & lasts through a few razors. Polished brass/silver nickel pins and washers, leaving a mirror finish.

Thanked: 443Hirlau--great find and good post.
Smalltank--your original photos showed some marks on the back side, close to the edge. Did those polish out? I hope they're not pits there.
Once I've got a blade nice and clean, I like to put some Renaissance Wax on it. This keeps it shiny and also makes it rinse much much easier. Best source for it I've found was www.RestorerSupplies.com --when I got my 200-ml tub they had the best price and it included shipping.
Have you honed/shaved with this razor yet?"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
