    Default Hello from an Okie.

Hello and thanks to all the folks that have shared their time, experience and photos. Ive been on SRP hiding in the shadows for the last couple of months. I have always wanted to shave with a straight razor but didnt know the first thing about them. Anyhow I bought me a $5 pakistan special about two years ago and had bad luck trying to get it to shave. I eventually did get a edge on it with my great grandpas old stones that would (kinda) shave. So last year I bought a old Chriss Johnson razor at a antique store to see if it would work better. But it never shaved like I thought it should. Then one day while surfing the internet I came across SRP. I found out that there were better things than a leather rifle sling strop and pakistan letter opener to shave with.

After about 5 months of reading and going over the beginners section I took the plunge this week and ordered a Dovo Special 6/8 and a good strop and some speick shaving cream from SRD. After two days of waiting I went to the post office and picked it up this morning. Putting my best foot forward I raced back to the house to look it over. I was like a kid at christmas, I couldnt get the package opened fast enough. Needless to say Im very pleased with my purchase.

After setting here reading up on how to soak your brush and whip up some lather I had my first GOOD straight razor shave today. Let me back up a minute. My best and also first straight razor shave was many years ago when I was about 12 years ago. The old barber in this little town I live in slapped a hot towel on my face and plasterd my face with warm cream. He then whipped out a razor from his pocket and begain to shave me. I was a little nervous at first but the shave felt so good I about fell asleep. To this day I dont know why he shaved me, I had no whiskers.

I guess the next thing for me to do is to find out if this Chriss Johnson is worth sending in for a good sharpening.

Welcome to SRP, and congratulations! Good to have you with us.
Proper gear is vital to a nice shave, and it sounds like you did your homework well.
About your Johnson - give it a good little polish with some maas or mothers or somesuch, and post a picture in the razors forum.
People will give their advice, and possibly someone has the same one.

    Best of luck

I'll post a pic if I can figure out how.. The razor polished up like a mirror even though it was rather rusty when I bought it.

That's good advice. It's not good to have a dirty Johnson.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
