Im a newb i admit it but i try to research as much as possible before jumping into something. For my 1st blade i went with Dovo but i could of went with a Thiers Issard blade.

What is the general consensus on Thiers vs Dovo? from what i read German blades are probably the best but most of Thiers blades are over 300$ compared to Dovo's avr of 200$ for a blade.

So is Thiers a better quality blade then Dovo?

For my 2nd blade i was thinking of a Bismark or a Astral or jumping to Thiers with a Le Canadien
But Phil at Classicedge told me that he didnt really like Thiers Issard so i stuck with Dovo for my 1st blade.
I first bought a Thiers Issard Razor and bought a Best Quality Dovo next.

So far the Dovo IMO is best. The TI I am having to sharpen faster than the Dovo.

I prefer TI over Dovo, the TI's have more heft and their edges tend to give a much more smoother feel to the shave.

A professionally honed TI is a great razor. For the money I would buy a quality Japanese straight razor. You will get a better bang for the buck.

TI offers a 7/8 and I have not seen one from Dovo. That would swing me but not everyone.

I am in the process of getting a Dovo Best Quality or Thiers-Issard Le Dandy, so this post has been helpful. Thank you.

I'd go TI personally, I have 3 very nice TI's from the Classic Edge and Phil will put a killer edge on the blade and Jane will look after any problems you have or can guide you around any questions regarding future interests around wet-shaving.

From what I've gathered so far, the Dovo has softer steel than the TI. I'm not sure if thats good or bad. Anyone know which steel provides a more comfortable shave?

Now this is my take only, but I'm not a fan of Dovo razors. My first was a Best Quality 5/8, and for what is was supposed to do, it was a great blade to learn on.

After having some TI's, and a few other vintage razors at the beginning of my journey, I finally snagged a Dovo Bismarck, with the black scales and inlay, and all the nice gold wash. To this day, I find it one of the worst performing razors I own - it's been pro-honed, I have many razors to compare it to, and for me it's just a sub-par razor. Maybe it's just that particular blade, maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan....my two cents.
