    Default different razors

I have a shavette, and recently just purchased a dove, I alternate between the two .. Both shave great however I seem to get a smoother less drag with the shavette. It seems the blade is shaper. All the preparation is the same the only thing that changes is the razor. I have purchased a Naniwa SS 1200, to see if that might smooth it out a little. Any suggestions :-)

Where did you purchase the dovo from? Depending on the retailer it may or may not be honed. Most people cannot successfully hone on their first try.
A shavette will always feel different from a straight and they do require sightly different technique that you will figure out as time passes.

First suggestion if you mean a 1200 and not a 12k stone don't touch it. Unless you have a lot of experience with hones don't touch it. Ruin a few Ebay throwaways first. The Dovo can easily be made sharper than the shavette. Send to one of the members here listed in the classifieds if you don't know for certain if the razor is ready to shave.

If you are getting good shaves it would be a bad choice to scrape the Dovo on a 1200 grit stone.

Purchased from that vendor it should be too sharp to put to a stone so soon unless you have dubbed the edge stropping. Your technique could be the cause. Razors and shavettes respond differently well even different razors respond differently.

If you haven't changed the shaving angle between the 2 , try that. The correct shaving angle for a straight is closer to flat than most people think.

You need some time to get used to your dovo razor, sr need a little different technique

Just like the other members here state, the angle of the SE is completely different than the angle of the straight for me at least. With that being said the SR is a much more comfortable shave. I would not use the 12k yet just focus on your stropping technique. Good luck
