    Default First shave!

Well, I received my razor back from Lynn yesterday, and since I'm off today, I figured it would be a good day to try it out. All I can say is WOW! This thing is sharp, and although I only did about a 2 inch shave, it was smooth and nick free. It will be hard not to rush into shaving my whole face, but I'm going to take my time and do it right. Thank you Lynn for getting that razor back to me so quickly, and I might add, that you really cleaned it up nicely and it looks great!
And a thanks to all on this site for the advice and videos. I'm not done learning, as I've got the rest of my face to get through, and I'll be reading up on that here. Thank you all!

Thanks everyone! I was out of town over the weekend, and did not take the straight with me. I took my DE for the trip. But I am so looking forward to tomorrow morning. Question, how much should I strop, if at all, since I'm only doing a little bit of shaving?

Second day of shaving this morning. Did the initial side burn to jaw shave, and then back up for the cheek part. Still cut free, and it's very smooth! I held the razor in my left, non-dominate, hand and it feels comfortable. I might go for the left side tomorrow.

Congrats for getting off to such a great start!

If you only own one razor, I suggest you practice stropping with a butter knife first. That will give you a feel for how light a pressure to use when stropping, while keeping both the spine and the edge in contact with the strop.

To answer your question, one must strop their razor daily when shaving their whole face, with two or three passes. The little bit you're shaving now isn't quite equivalent to that yet.

But do practice stropping technique with a butter knife.
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-

Leeward congrats! You made a very good choice when you had Lynn take care of your razor. You are now aware of what
a nicely tuned razor feels like on the face. : ) If and as you progress with straight shaving the edge you just enjoyed becomes a target goal if you ever start honing on your own. I always get a serious wake up call every time I shave with a razor just honed by Lynn, Glen or several other of our experts here and eventually I hope to capture the feel of one of their edges with my hones. Enjoy and take your time.

I have been using a butter knife to practice with much success! (my wife thinks I'm crazy, btw..stropping a butter knife...)
