Thanked: 15Can I get it back?
So while stropping my Dovo 6/8 full hollow on a SRD modular paddle I went off the end of the paddle on a corner. Now there is a small rolled spot on the heal of the blade. Can I correct this on the Norton 4/8 that I also got from Lynn?Maybe a few laps on the 8k side to straighten it up?I also have the .5 diamond spray and wool pad as well as the rough leather and .5 croOx stick that Lynn offers. My shaves were going great and now?I may have messed up and have to send my one razor out to be fixed. If I can fix this on my own that would be great.I'm hoping a few lite laps on a stone will fix it.

i would start with 60 to a 100 laps on your linen/canvas/cloth strop and then look to see how the rolled area is. if that has only improved it then do some more, if the roll looks the same or looks more like a nick then start with the 8k, less is more, try 10 laps at a time, and then finish on either the diamond or the crOx as you prefer.
enjoy,
jim

Thanked: 30How experienced are you at maintaining your edge and/or honing? it might be safer sending it off. I wouldn't use cloth strop you are not willing to get tore up if the rolled edge decides its he-man. Basic premise is to massage the bent area back in line with the rest, then rework the edge. Less is more is very true, if the 8k starts to look like it will take ages at its rate, dont be afraid to take it to the 4K side. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can still send it out.
disclaimer: i have yet to deal with a rolled edge on a straight, have dealt with a few on swords though.

If your not really experienced on the hones I would work backwards.
try a serious stropping on Felt/Leather, if that fails work your way back. Crox, Diamond, Norton as the everything else failed.
I know from personal experience that inexperience on the Norton can book your 1 shave ready razor on a return trip to a capable hone master very easily.

Without seeing it advice is difficult. A general rule is be conservative and as has been said start with high grit and work backwards. In my experience if you have a rolled edge or a flat spot it's pretty similar to dealing with a small chip meaning it has to be honed out. If it's a tear you can't fix it by deforming back into shape.

Thanked: 15Thanks for the input people.I fixed it with 7 laps on the 8k stone and 10 laps on CroOx pasted rough leather. The shave is back to where it was when new.Guess I did not mess it up as bad as I thought.Taking it easy and slow worked great!
