    Default Brand new to this

    Hey All,

I found this site recently and have been reading all sorts of the articles on razors and use and accessories, etc. Well I've been looking at getting a razor for a few months now and I have recently found one at a antique store for $12. After reading more about razors I know that this is not shave ready and that I need to sand and buff the blade. I'll include a few pictures and I was wondering if anybody can tell me a bit about this model and particularly what the 7 stands for above the dancing twins, all I could find was stuff about the 14's. I am also looking to get it honed, I live in Hawaii over the summer, does anybody know of a place that is near there or a trusty place I could send it to? Also does anybody have a recommended strop for beginners, preferably that I could order from amazon?

I'd be happy to answer anymore questions about the razor. Looking forward to being around these forums.

    Welcome!!
    Nice razor!

The dancing twins logo is usually on Henckels razors, this could be an side brand? Henckels razors almost always had numbers, they are probably just model numbers. Someone with more Solingen knowledge will probably add more info.

    Welcome to SRP!
nice looking razor. the age guess is 1870-1891 and i would say a made by j.a. henckels under contract.

there are a number of members based in hawaii and at least one who makes custom razors... he might be a good source for buffing and honing the blade.

your best bets on strops are straight razor designs or whippeddog
amazon has strops from straight razor designs and jemico their other ones i would not reccomend

    enjoy,
    jim
