Thanked: 0To tame a Feather
So Ive been reading through posts here about using the feather AC. Ive been at it about a week with some disappointing results. I keep hearing about how scary and incredibly sharp these guys are, but I cant seem to get a decently smooth shave with it. By that, I mean that if I dont clean up with my DE I have an instant rough 5oclock shadow. Ive tried going over the areas again and tried going against the grain but neither seem to cut the hair closely. I also cant cut myself with the thing and Ive tried several blades. Im sure if I moved the blade the wrong way it would cut me, but Ive jittered it across my face on numerous occasion and the skipping doesnt even affect my skin at all. Im sure that in saying this ive put the proverbial foot in my mouth but Im a bit disappointed. I was under the impression that this thing was going to make me look like Freddy or get me a close shave. Neither of these holds true so far.
Then I read a thread that said "if you put that much pressure on with the feather you wouldnt be cutting much hair" I dint see how putting less pressure will cut more but Ill give it a whirl this evening. Ive also tried every angle I could which produced some obvious irritation at times but still doesnt cut the hair. Anyone have any good pointers. Im going to order Lynns video here in a few but until I get that I woudlnt mind practicing a bit more. Thanks gang.

Thanked: 346Several people on SMF and B&B have experienced spotty quality on the feather blades. My first pack was as dull as a butter knife, wouldn't cut arm hair even with pressure.
My second pack, OTOH, were extremely sharp.

Imagine what would happen if you put real blades in there . . . man. As a note of record I've often said the Feather was too sharp. Never said it could shave though, thats a different animal. I too got lousy shaves with a Feather. I'd get new blades and practice for atleast 2 weeks before you give up (if you really want success).

Jak:
PM me with your address and I'd be glad to send you a couple blades from my current deck of Feather Pros, which are plenty sharp...
Also, you may want to consider the Pro Super blades (http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...646/796569.htm), which are both a bit longer and thicker than the Pros.

Thanked: 0That would be great, thank you. I think though, that I may be expecting too much. I got a shave at a Truefitt and Hill not long ago and do recall the barber having a hell of a time getting some of the areas smooth. He went over the corners of my mouth about 5 times and across and against my chin about the same. He also had an aweful time with the area from my chin down to my adams apple. I had a good bit of small scabs there.
I was expecting the feather razor to pass through my tough hair without problem. I also expected it to cut my skin if I ever pushed it against it. However, my skin deflects under pressure from the blade and I have yet to draw blood on anything but a pimple or skin imperfection on my rough chin. I said on another board that perhaps, I am superman. Ill get all the chicks that way.
