    Default back to square -1

please excuse my lack of capitalization an the many typos im bound to make.

so ive been straight shaving for about two months nowand ive started getting comfortable with the process! Then i broke my dominant hand. I just had surgery last night and now im faced (haha) withh shavimg using only my left hand.

So far my plan is to use a heavier bowl for lathering and something grippy under it so i can lather 1 handed.
I'll have my brother strop the razor

any other suggestions?shaving left handed only is going to be a challenge...

well put that brother to work ... he can build a lather for you as well, rubber shelf liner works good to hold a bowl in place.
have you been shaving with both hands so far? if so your left will quickly come up to speed through use...

there are alternatives... your brother could shave you

so why did you choose to break your hand at this juncture in your shaving career?

Quite honestly if you are right handed and have no experience using your left hand I wouldn't be starting with a straight razor on my face. I'd use a DE for a few weeks.

    I have some tips:

1 Don't use a hanging strop. Instead use a bench strop, or a paddle strop on a table. This way you can strop one-handed. Might be hard to do left handed though.

    2 Face Lather.

3 Maybe switch to a DE for a little bit.

I think #3 might be the best thing for you honestly. Even if you can do everything just fine with your left hand, there are still going to be things you need two hands for when using a straight.

Never go back to square one unless you have to.

In the meantime, shave with anything you have. Save a straight for
when you can safely handle it.

    Good luck!

again, please excuse the many typos that are bound to occur.

I don't own a DE, and I swore to never pay for cartridges again, so its either the straight or the caveman look. I just taught my brother to use a cartridge a few days ago for his first ever shave, so theres no way hes getting near my face with ANY razor hahaha.

Over the last few days i've been using my left more and more and I've gottn pretty good with it. That coupled with the fact that I usually shave 1/3 of my face lefty anyway, I decided to go for it. In a word: Success!

My bro held the strop taught for me, laid out the shelf liner, and opened my alum pen for me (just in case). Everything else I manages to do myself. I tried bowl lathering as I usually do but switched to face lathering as Michael suggested and foun that much easier. Thanks Michael!cThe shave went very smothly. I had about 6 days of growthwhich i think equates to about 3 or 4 days' growth for most of you guys (i'm young and it grows slowly). I had to do a bit of improvising with my hand position on the razor, but settled into a grove after the first pass. After three passes I had alittle burn on my lower neck where it grows south to north, a weepr on a blemish I didnt know sbout, and a little burn near my lip where i was stupid and tried to touch up with no lather.

Overall a it was a very successful shave. Not my best, but netter than many of my shaves. The clean look and feel are helping my mood too! The process was a positive one and one that I would recommend to others. I learned a lot today!
