Thanked: 1First shave!
Got my Dovo "Bismarck" in today along with my 3" strop from Vintage blades. So of Course like a NEWBIE i couldn't wait to use it. Now this is were you old timer get to laugh! My soap that i ordered hadn't come in yet so I grabbed for the good old shaving cream in a can. Now i will say orther than the shaving cream incident i did manage to listen to the or advice given on this forum. I took a shower I washed my face really good... Since i was new i only lathered up my right cheek and did short strokes with razor. I found that before could even finish that little section that the shaving cream had went dry so just with soap i just added a little water to the second pass on my right side. When i finished the right side i dried my face and gave it a feel. I was so impressed that i had to stop what i was doing and go have my wife feel of course see just shock her head and smiled. Went back and did my left side of my face. No nicks, no cuts awsome. Can't wait to shave tomorrow.
Things that i learned from ur site:
Hot shower and wash ur face
Stretching ur skin
Short strokes
Taking ur time
Dont shave ur whole face the first time learn the blade and how to hold it.
sorry i cant remember who's threads i read on these section but thanks.

Thanked: 1195Congrats!
Don't feel too bad about using the canned goo. Yes, most of us are shaving soap/cream snobs, but most are willing to admit that the canned variety is serviceable. It does make a difference though when you use a good brush and traditional soap/cream. I think you'll really like it

Thanked: 2I actually did my first shave with canned goop as I wanted to avoid variables. I wanted to make sure that I knew how to make lather effectively and wanted to make sure that if I didn't get a good shave I could attribute it to angle and technique as opposed to my lather. Granted, a soap/cream is much nicer in both the feel and scent departments, but the canned goop does work. Afterall, it has to when you think about the fact that it's designed to work with something where you are passing 5 blades over the same spot!!!
Keep it up and welcome to the club,
McP
