Thanked: 0New to the straight razor, just saying hello
I just got my first razor and I must say it is so different than a Mach 3. I do like the idea of not buying anymore of those razors though. I only got two nicks from my fist shave! Anyway I will be reading alot and learning too.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the welcome. So what is the real differance between my $80 Dovo and a $300 dovo?

Other than $220? Sorry, couldn't resist.
I am in no way any kind of Dovo expert, but I suspect that as the price goes up, so will three other things: quality of the steel, quality of the scale material, and snazziness of the decoration.
Welcome to the addicti... I mean club. And to SRP!
Apart from the coolness factor of a relatively ancient ritual, escaping the cost of those little pieces of plastic was a big factor in my getting into wet shaving as well. And once I got comfortable with it, I have not looked back. I hope you'll find you made as good a decision as I did.

Thanked: 0That was the only real reason I am switching to wet shaving. I think this razor will pay for it self in a month or two.

Thanked: 0Greetings all. Super noob here. In fact, I purchased my first razor last night. I'm very anxious to learn all I can.
I think I am most excited about the prospect of being able to hand something special down to my boys. When they were about 5 I taught them to tie a necktie. I think too many of our young men are missing out on these classy things that all men should know. Just my 2 cents.

Thanked: 443*Whew!* Just finished slapping my knee. Hoo. I used to think that, too. Then I bought another razor, and another, and so on until I found the perfect design for me. So now I can sell down the collection to just the perfect ones. And the hones, those are all keepers, and the nice wall cabinet for the hones, and I think I'll order my fourth strop next week. I only have three brushes and three tubes of cream and two tubs of other cream and, I dunno, 8 or so cakes of soap. But if I live long enough to use all those soaps, and don't buy any other stuff, I'll come out ahead.
I the meantime, straight shaving has become my daily meditation on quality, and what it does to anchor and steady me during that half hour of quiet, careful work is priceless.
The difference between lower-end and higher-end Dovos is mostly in scales and cosmetics, I think. I have a Dovo blade that is the same shape as their 6/8 Bismarcks, but it looks like it picked up a couple of wayward scratches that took it out of the running for the gold wash and higher polish. Same steel, though, I'm pretty sure. I think it's great that they manufacture the Best series, so folks can try out a brand-new, high-quality piece of steel.
Glad to have you here.
Best wishes
