    Default Newbie Question

I'm thinking of buying my first straight razor from Classicshaving.com [a Dovo Special 6/8] will I need to have them sharpen it before they ship it? I don't want to mess with a new razor before my first shave, I want to know the feel of a truly sharp blade for future reference. Also does the Dovo 6/8 sound like a good choice for a first razor.

Get it honed for sure. The person who does this is Lynn -- the head honcho of this forum. If you want to learn how to hone, get a junk e-bay razor as well, clean it up and try to get it to match the sharpness of Lynn's work.
I've only had one DOVO -- a 5/8 bone-scaled Bismarck spike and it turned out to be a very good shaver.

A Dovo 6/8 is a nice choice if you want new vs. pre-owned or restored and shaveready. They hone up well and are easy to maintain as well as not being the most expensive razor on the block.

    Good luck.
