After I dry it and strop it, I leave mine open with a golf tee between the shank and the scales to let it finish drying/air out the scales for a few hours on my dresser before placing it back in its box. I think making a case for it is a great idea. Perhaps your father could help you with that.

I think I'll try it. Question is, where can I get a cigar box w/o getting cigars as well?

That's simple have ur dad go to a cigar shop or a smoke shop and have him ask for empty cigar boxes chances are they should have them If not let me know and I'll send u down one
