Thanked: 0First shave and a decent one!!
Excited to finally be part of the shave club. Posted a message here about starting out and gssixgun was nice enough to offer a razor to get me started. So it arrived in the mail yesterday and I had my first shave. It was a pretty cool experience having just a blade against your face to shave with! It went pretty well too. I went slow but did well everywhere except mustache and neck area. I called it a day and finished with my regular razor and will try again another day. Saw a tiny bit of blood on the razor around my chin area but no noticable cuts. Anyways glad to be part of the club. I also like the idea of redoing a couple old razor for fun. I have made a couple leather watch bands and just like that sort of thing. Any inexpensive razor hone that is a good starter? I don't want to drop $70 on something I may not get into.

Thanked: 21Well done on that first shave, as for inexpensive hones.... you can look into microabrasive film hones. They don't last forever, but you can buy an actual stone or waterstone set later if you decide it is for you.

Thanked: 0So second shave last night. Probably could have waited till morning but I wanted to have time. Shave was a little rougher and felt dry. Probably didn't get the stropping done correct I assume. But still fun. Will work on a better strop tonight.

If you want to practice stropping, use a butter knife. You'd be hard pressed to damage your strop, and you can work on the muscle memory on the flip and stroke without worry.
