Thanked: 3Shaving with Facial Imperfections
I have a small problem that I'd like some advice on, I'm using a Geneva 11/16ths Razor that I bought from Obie here on the forums and I'm loving so far. However just to the left of my lip crease there is a bump that I've had since I was young that pushes up about 3cm (guessing here) or higher from the surface of my skin and is a little bigger than your average zit, it's almost like a mole but has no dark skin on it and it has the same facial hair as my mustache. I have cut it before with a disposable razor but with a straight razor I fear cutting it even worse. Is there anything I can do to avoid nicking it with my straight?
Any advice would be great.

Thanked: 94I have a mole on my neck. I shave over it all the time. I would say 1 in 10 shaves I actually cut it. I just stretch the skin as much as possible and use the lightest touch imaginable. Dunno if it will work for your situation, but its all I got!

Ill give you my $.02. I would learn to shave you sideburns to your jawline, then with every shave progress across your cheek untill you reach your upper lip. Stretch your skin a lot, so you can make said bump even with the rest of your skin. Put the razor at a low angle, and very lightly, shave over it. You may cut it, you may not. Just be very gently, and you should be OK.

Thanked: 146I had a couple of areas when I first started straight shaving. The operative word here is "had". There was a mole on the side of my neck and a scar in between my lower lip and chin where a piece of metal went all the way through when I was a kid. The mole I kept shaving over, once I shaved it real good and whacked it off, hasn't come back. The scar was reduced over a period of time. Never really cut it good, but it is almost gone now, and it used to be quite noticeable. My son and daughter in law remarked on it about a month ago, I hadn't really noticed before then, but it is almost gone...I used a light touch and just shaved over it like everywhere else. Good Luck.

You have a bump that pushes up 3 cm? I'd be very intersested in seeing a picture of it.
I think/hope you mean mm, 3 cm is more than an inch

I'm sure you will cut it from time to time, even keeping your skin tight.
You might be able to get a better stretch by using some alum on the tips of your fingers... Just be sure any areas you touch with the alum have been fully shaved first.

Thanked: 0I have a similar issue, and heres how I handle it:
Put your fingers on one side of the bump, pull the skin and do a VERY LIGHT pass with your razor. Now rinse and repeat pulling the skin the other way. I do about 6 extremely light passes (3 pulling skin to one side, and 3 another), and never knick it. So long as you're okay with having to do the excessive number of passes to get the area shaved, it works like a charm. I prefer it because when I used to knick this mole, it would hurt like hell and then bleeds and scabs -- and no one wants that from shaving!

You know, ihad a small mole that I cut for years... I went to the doc and he said he didn't want to take it off for fear of scaring.... I told him i didn' care about a small scar versus fighting the mole everyday.. So he lopped it off, and no more worries...

Not recommending this but... It seems that after cutting off all the little imperfections a doz. or so times they learn not to come back. Cell memory.
