With Chris, I benefitted from having Lynn hone me up some blades. But not for the same reason.

When I got two razors back from Lynn, I still had terrible trouble against the grain (I used to go against the grain, using a Mach3, with no trouble). The good deal was, I _knew_ it had to be my technique. So, I put aside questions about the sharpness of the blade, and just experimented with the ATG pass. After a couple of weeks, it was going quite well.

Eliminating the element of doubt was the key for me. If I had honed it myself, I'd keep wondering if it was the blade. Once I knew it was not the blade, I could settle down and work at technique undistractedly.

Exactly. That's what I was saying. Eliminating variables to narrow down the problem area.
