Hi Matt,
Welcome to SRP!
Check the Classified here, the AUS forum near the bottom, as well as the Vendors Corner. All would be great places to search out a razor, and most ship internationally.
As for Dovo's, yes, they are "worth it" in terms that they are decent shavers. I have several myself.- Jeremy -

Welcome to SRP. Dovo makes a good razor and an entry level Dovo is a good start. There is a dedicated Aussie forum here with some knowledgeable members who can probably tell you where to best access equipment in Australia.

Thanked: 443Hi Matt, and welcome!
Check our Classifieds; I know we have members in your neck of the globe who sell nice stuff. I think one of the frequent names is JohmMrson, or something like that, and Buddy Rockafella, or something else like that...
Yes, Dovos are good. The factory edge may not be truly shave-ready, but that's true for most of the manufacturers. I suggest you only buy from a vendor who knows what shave-ready means, and will open the box and put that edge on a new razor. If a vendor doesn't also sell hones and strops, I'd be wary of buying a blade from them--unless it's a vintage blade on our classifieds.
Our wiki has a list of razors to avoid; have a look in there or post questions back here as you choose your next razor.
Good luck and best wishes to you.Last edited by roughkype; 07-14-2012 at 09:27 PM.

Thanked: 1587The Shaver Shop sell Dovos. They are not shave ready. The Razor Shop also sell Dovos, and you can purchase a honing service in addition so that it is shave ready when it arrives. Both shops are very local to you, and I believe both also sell strops. You probably will not get any quicker than those two options because they are local to you.

G'Day and welcome to SRP, Matt.
PM johnmrson in Melbourne and he'll set you right when it comes to a good, shave ready razor.
Maybe Oz (onimaru55) could hone up the tomahawk for you or, if you are in Brisbane, I'll give it a go for you, gratis.
Anyway, let us know how you go.Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Welcome to SRP, Matt.
There's a reason that Tomahawk razors make it into our "Razors to avoid list." Keep it as a letter opener or for stropping practice.
I'd go with Jimbo's advice & get a new entry level Dovo & have it pro honed before use.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
