Thanked: 0Day Two
Hi everyone! I haven't posted before but I've lurked for a few weeks. Just wanted to say hi and thanks for all of your knowledge! I purchased a beginners set from Vintage Blades about a week ago (Dovo blade and one of their strops). Today was day two of using a straight razor. I was going to follow the SRP recommendation of advancing in segments but the first bit went really well so I went ahead and did my whole face. (Who knew that years of art training would pay off!) No cuts or nicks yet.
Stropping will take a while to get used to. Already nicked the extreme ends of my strop on the very edges... twice. But there's still plenty of room to still use it and I'm practicing with a butter knife. I'll get better and as I do so I'll eventually want another strop so this one becomes a pasted one.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! I'm only 24 and hooked for life! I got interested in straight razor shaving because I got fed up with disposables (expensive to do and horrible quality shave... ALWAYS sore from razor burn or ingrown hairs), and as my dad says I'm 'tighter than tree bark' when it comes to money. Haha!
I came out super smooth two days in a row, no injury, and only needing a couple of touchups with the safety because I'm a newbie. Totally hooked and feeling the beginnings of CRAD (Compulsive Razor Acquisition Disorder).
Cheers!
