Take a look at the Filly strop. Minimal cost and a nice strop to begin with.

Actually you don't have to nick your strop if you practice flipping the razor in mid air first to develop the dexterity & then spend some time practicing on a hanging strop made from a single sheet of newspaper. Of course timing the flip is crucial but little damage is done if mistakes are made on newspaper.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
