It should be completely dry and applied fastidiously so as to leave no texture, rubbed into the material in order to be flat and smooth. It should be as if the material and compound are one.

DO NOT APPLY PASTE TO AN SRD PREMIUM STROP!

    Use anything else.

Hello OldSoldier, and welcome to SRP.

Here is an article about pasting a strop, and here's a fairly comprehensive article about pastes. Both are from our wiki.

As the first article says, apply your paste very lightly. You can always add a little more but it's very very difficult to remove it if overapplied. I prefer the spray versions of the stropping abrasives; it's much easier to get it right. I speak from the experience of overdoing it once.

    Best wishes to you.

    Roughkype,
I appreciate the links very much, more input to digest before finalizing any decisions. I have already purchased a bottle of CrOx, I could put it away and buy some spray but that seems wasteful. I'll try my hand with the bottle, actually it looks like a glue bottle.
Lastly, thank you for the welcome aboard. Thus far I have found everyone friendly enough and very helpful.

I would think that using 2 quality products would produce quality work, apparently you are not in agreement with my assessment. Do you have a recommendation for a superior alternative for the SRD strop?

I think what he means is since the strop will be dedicated to the paste a real basic quality strop will do just fine. To take a first quality strop and apply paste is sacrilege.

Make sure you apply the paste very very sparingly. Less is more and as has been said it must be thoroughly dry.
