Could use some Help going in the right direction!
Ok,
So my name is Harold "USMCChaps" I read the beginners post of the month for July. I am looking for some one who could help mentor me in this process. A advanced person that I can ask questions to and that is not going to just list a page to go to.I got my first shave about 3 months ago at Art of shaving in the mall. I loved it. I started looking for info. I have read most of the beginners pages on here. I am here for all 3 or 4 reasons listed in the July beginners guide. My Papaw shaved this way and I really love it and it brings back memories of me watching him when I was little. Next I am on a budget so I do look for good deals. So my first will have to get me by till I can save and get nicer ones. But I plan to make this a long term hobby. Lastly I just enjoy having my guy time. Cranking up my music relaxing, preping my face, and just having a nice shave that no longer pulls and tugs and rips hairs from my face. What I have now: I have been shaving with a Dovo shavette right now. I am looking into getting 2 new and different razors. Next what do I use now? The Art of Shaving - Full Size Shaving Kit with Black Brush My wife got me this kit and it works very nice. I also have a alum bar and a septic pen. Now I just need guidance on blades, and strops for now. I have a few in mind but want to run them by some and make sure they are good. Then down the road I plan to look into getting honing stones. I have heard several different opinions. I would like to be able to ask what about this brand and why or why not. Mainly just to be able to educate my self on this. You can read all you want on how to build a car but it does not make you a mechanic. You need a supervisor that will say yes it runs on gas but you dont put gas in till the end. Lol! I hope that I get some reply's to this and I hope I have provided enough info so that some one can be of help to me.
Thank you
Harold "USMCChaps"

Thanked: 21I'm a bit new to be anyone's mentor, but I do want to say welcome to SRP. If you end up with random questions and I can answer them I will try, if you just want someone to exchange silly newbie mistakes with, in the hopes that we can at least avoid making the same ones as the other guy... I'm willing to help there as well.
Here's the first one of those mistakes I was talking about, make sure the cat can't get into the bathroom, they have a terrible idea of when is a good time to rub against your arm.

Very good advice re the cat. I also learned early on that a loud doorbell and an excitable dog makes for a bad situation as well. There's nothing like a large part-wolf dog going from 0-60 under your feet while you have an extremely sharp hunk of steel next to your face...
I'm more than happy to help out as I can. PM sent.
