I figured you'd go for a square or spike tip. Still a pretty razor though

Congrats on the Hart and welcome to the club. Wait is there a Hart group on here?

Nice write up. Like thebigspendur said in your other thread, I agree with everything you wrote except mine has G-10 scales. IMHO I wouldn't go for the extra resin scales based on what I've got. Anyway, the spine thing is interesting. My Hart is 15/16 and the spine seems massive. The profile is very like an old Sheffield wedge. When Hart first came out an long time SRP member, mparker762, posted quite a lot of negative stuff because the spine was not thick enough to properly hone a razor of that width, too thin @ 14 degrees. Created quite a stir at the time and maybe they are over compensating now ..... or maybe it is no the money ? Beyond my sphere of knowledge. Mine is a nice enough razor but, as TBS said, not on a par with a TI for the same $.

Thanked: 247This post got me thinking so I pulled out my calipers and my trig calculator. I discovered a couple surprises...well one, anyway.
The spine thickness is 0.2 inches (give or take a few thousandths) and the profile is 0.8 (again, give or take a couple thousandths)....wait what?
Goes and checks the box....yup the box says 6/8...hummmmm
Ok so back to the math. Take half the spine thickness to achieve a right triangle with the long leg as the blade centerline. Inverse tangent (0.1/0.8) = 7.125 degrees.
Double this to compute the approx edge bevel angle, and the result is 14.25 degrees.
So, do I have a 6/8 or7/8? I'm thinking I got a mislabeled box and a 7/8...Last edited by unit; 08-08-2012 at 01:38 AM.
