Hopelessly careening down the slippery slope...
I'm afraid that I have indeed been bitten by the SR bug. I had to give in to temptation today and purchase a Boker Edelweiss from SRD. I'm telling myself (and my wife) that I just need one razor for each day of the week. But the problem is that the year has 52 weeks!!

Thanked: 1195I'm afraid you're preaching to the choir Rodney. If it gives you any hope even those of us who have been doing this for years keep telling ourselves "just one more"......

Thanked: 443Welcome, Rodney. I'm sorry to hear you've been bitten; there is no cure and the ADs are sometimes debilitating. Sounds like you're off to a good start with your blade. Did you also order a strop? That's as important a piece of gear as the blade itself.
A second blade is an easy thing to argue for, a third blade a little less so, and at the same time you're picking out your fourth one you should admit that you have a problem. I don't know how many I have. Way more than seven. And I keep meaning to sell some off.
There are guys here who have a razor a day for a year. There are guys here who claim they don't have a problem. It takes all sorts, and they're all good guys. You've come to the right place. Read lots, ask lots of questions, and share your adventure with us.
I hope you manage to slow your careen before you put the blade to your face the first time.
Oh, and that blade will arrive honed and stropped and ready to shave. Do not strop it before the first time you shave with it. That way you'll be sure to experience the blade at its best. It's pretty easy for new users to damage the blade in their early stropping attempts. Read up on stropping, too, and practice with a butter knife so you can lay in some muscle memory before going for the real thing. Be sure that your flip comes AFTER you've reversed direction on the strop.
Best wishes and happy shaving to you."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Thanked: 443Also, because there are some among us who will want to know (Carl, I'm looking at you!), what kind of soap did you use to lather your slippery slope? And was it slippery enough for you? Try more water, maybe...

And just think you still have the brush bug, strop bug and the hone bug too contend with... And you thought you would be saving money in the (very) long run... lol

Hehe, thanks for all of the replies. Yes, my seatbelt is buckled, and I even have a helmet on for this one! I did indeed order a strop from them as well. I got the 3" latigo with premium fabric. I don't plan on using that particular strop until I become proficient at *not* cutting them though. My "poor mans" strop will have to endure until that point. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the slope is thickly lathered with Bald Frog.

Limit yourself to 25 or 30 straights and you should be fine. Tell the wife I told you so.
