Wtg Alex. Wait until your tour ends and you get home to hot water, hard soaps and badger brushes. The shave quality will improve immensely!

Well done Alex, sounds like your first shave went very well, it is all good from here.
I am new to straight shaving myself, and with about a dozen shaves under my belt, can safely say that each and every shave gets better in some small way.
Good luck!

Thanked: 0Alex,
If you need anything shave related or otherwise, let me know. I am going back to the States for Christmas and I can MPS you something from my APO in Turkey when I get back (28 Dec). It shouldn't take nearly as long given how the mail routes from here to Iraq.

Thanked: 0I too have about a dozen or so straight shaves under my belt and learn something new with each shave. For example, regarding that hard to get to depression on each side of the neck...I kept trying to shave horizontally back to front to shave against the grain and just could not get it BBS. Well during my last shave I discovered the grain goes downhill...voila!! Got it smooooooth! It took all dozen shaves to find this out. I still have trouble with making too many passes though. I guess I'm a little too anal about getting it smooth. Darn near needed a transfusion last weekend there was so much blood. The heck of it is, I had the smoothness I was looking for except for a few small areas but I just couldn't bring myself to stop. I am learning though. And you will too.

Blhoward, thanks, I appreciate the offer; wish I'd read it a little sooner so I coulda had you pick me up a norton for the ebay razor on it's way. Unfortunately the stone's already in the mail...
Bill, I don't think it *needed* 50 laps, but I there was another thread in here that recommended 50 on a paddle to be safe, and I figured I might as well, for practice. The razor cuts like a dream (or more accurately for my chin, a nightmare, lol). Today has been my best shave yet, did an ATG pass after the first all over and most of me is super smooth. Still working out some parts of the neck & under-jawline, but it's progressing Only 4-5 nicks, too, all on my accursed chin, heh. (I have a couple of scars on it, one from splitting it open and one from an infected ingrown hair that turned into encephalitis [sp], makes it harder).
