    Default unsavory strop conditions

hello i have my leather and linen strop hanging in my bathroom (obviously). i have 2 dogs that shed (almost ridiculously so) and a grandmother that loves hairspray will the animal hair or hairspray adversely affect my stropping wether it be the razor or strop getting damaged right now I'm keeping the bag the strop came in on the strop when not in use is this a good idea to do?

my brush and razors are kept in my room but theres no good place to hang the strop without putting a bother hole in my wall(small sacrifice for good protection but not favorable)

The dog hair I can't see affecting the strop in any way, hard to say if hair spray would affect the strop but it's not impossible. Anyway what I think the possibly moist conditions of a bathroom might not affect your strop very much but it certainly won't do it any good.

    Why hang it?

I keep mine in my dresser drawer. I cannot imagine that it will hurt anything to leave your strop in your sock or underwear drawer where it will be safe from potential contaminants (hopefully).

I keep my razors and strop in a drawer, when its time to use them, I select a razor and strop(s), then head into the shavatorium (my bathroom).

    Cheers!

I hang my strops but not in the bathroom. I don't want them exposed to the moisture. Since I've never hung them in the bath I don't know if it would have any adverse effects but I can say that hanging them in the hall leading into the bathroom is safe ..... at my house. YMMV.

As the others said, I would keep it away from hairspray. I don't think the dog hair would matter. In any case it should be easy to take off any hairs before use.

That is my #1 reason for not leaving them in the john (well that and my boys might decide to play with them).

Is there some compelling reason to store them hanging instead of laying flat like I do? I am new and curious.

If for any reason they developed a bend (like mine did when it was doubled over in the shipping box) you can hang it to let it straighten itself out. Aside from the convenience of it already hanging, that's the only reason I could think of.

I keep checking back to see if anything more unsavory has come up, like hanging the strop on a stiletto heel while you prep for your shave. *sigh*

But yeah, Bluerain, it'd be best to get your strop outta that bathroom. Can you get one of those over-the-door hanger clip thingies, screw a cup hook into a window frame, something like that?

Flat in a drawer is fine, too, if you've got a drawer with the space. I don't, so they live on the wall.

I keep my strop hanging in the guest room. It goes back as soon as I'm done stropping in the bathroom.

I will be putting a hook in the guest room soon.
