    Default The Keep-The-blade-Sharp Idea

ok so I've read lots of stuff about blade upkeep i've read some people can keep a blade shave ready for years. they just do a blade touchup a couple of times a week (less or more) various methods have been described.i want to try it so I'm going to buy another strop to do it.

The straight razor designs 3in Rock Hard wool and Choose 2nd Material is what i want with a .5 diamond spray with the intention of using it to refine the edge of the blade once a week.Im quite good at stropping never used a hone yet. not sure what i want for the 2nd material anyone know the difference between the black webbed fabric and the SRD premium fabric or would a 2nd wool with a different diamond spray be better.

Don't expect the blade to last forever just long enough until i learn to hone one properly also i think the less times i hone the blade the better less of a chance to really mess up my good razor.

I seem to recall reading that chrome oxide gives a smoother/milder edge than diamond paste, could be my faulty memory acting up again though

As Glenn stated about diamond paste...some edges go well with it..others can be made harsher using it

He is on the right track though, using the felt with diamond is probably the best medium with it..

If I was going to try what you have in mind I think I would have to go with what has already been said, the .50 Diamond to start and then the .50 CrOx to smooth it out, the experiment I did with the Felt SRD strop and Diamond some years back was with .50 and .25 I was well over 70 shaves and could have kept going easily but honestly I got bored with the fact that it was all to easy I was doing weekly stroping on the diamond which honestly the razor didn't really need, but I was trying to actually destroy the edge in this experiment it was a surprise that it didn't happen...

You might want to fire a PM or email to Lynn he knows those strops better then anyone and might have a good idea what you should use..

thanx gssixgun i sent a message to lynn some days ago no word yet.however given your success with it, ill try it anyway, i mean worst case scenario i end up with a pasted strop for future use anyway

also were both sides of the strop felt and how many strokes did you use on each pastes?

I have a new Dove that is still shaving great after 7 months.Once a month it gets 10 laps on .5 diamond/wool,then 5 laps on .5 CrOx/rough leather,to smooth the edge.My other razor is an Imperial that is still working good after 8 months.Once a month it gets 10 laps on CrOx/rough leather.

I would say give it a try and see what your results are. Can't hurt to try!
