Thanked: 2209Dinged edge fixed & a new strop....
Today was interesting. One of our new guys, Aerocarl, came over with a razor that had a minor ding in the edge. he had dropped an Alum block and it landed on the razors edge. It put a minor ding ( bend) in the edge. This made the razor unusable. It dug into his skin when he tried to use it.
Here is a pic of aerocarl......
He brought along his new leather/hemp starter strop from Nun2sharp ( Kelly) so I used that to remove the ding. What I did was simply strop it on the hemp side for a 100 or so roundtrips ( with a bit of pressure of course) and the ding was gone!
Here is a pic of the razor ( from straightrazors4sale) and the leather/hemp strop.
After the ding was removed I then took the razor to a buffer and cleaned it up a bit. That made the edge dull of course so I rehoned the razor for him.
Then we reviewed the procedure for breaking in a new strop.
This was Carls second visit to my home and I always enjoy the company of good people.
So, if any of you new guys need help or have questions I hope you can find a SRP guy in your area. If you need help with that just let us know.
Carl, thanks for coming over again, it was a good day.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

How does the hemp compare with vintage linen?
The 'grain' looks similar.
Sounds like a great day - I wish you many more.Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 2209The hemp strop is pretty good. It does require some "breaking-in" just like a leather strop. I first used one about 2 years ago when a friend gave me one to try. They are different than what you are used to but work just fine.
