    Default Need directions please

    Gentlemen,

I'm slowly working my way to the BBS not there yet though. My problem is the neck area. I shave twice downward, once upward and once at an angle (ear to adams apple). But, when I run my fingers across the neck toward the adams apple I feel stubble on both the left and right sides. I've tried to pull in the direction away from the adams apple, and even toward it. But I'm still not getting that darn stubble. Don't get me wrong I'm not giving up, but just need some help on my way to the BBS.
I'm even able to keep most of my blood in my body, instead of on my stiptic pencil and tissues.

    Thanks,
    Alewine

It's tough to get to BBS at the sides of the neck. I don't even concern myself with it anymore. I don't worry about BBS much either. I'm just after a fun, decent shave. I don't have any babies around here anymore, so I would have nothing to compare my shaves with anyway. I asked my wife if I could compare my shave with her butt, but she thought that was a little creepy and just an excuse to get her to take her clothes off.

From my once mentor always told me is stop chasing the bbs shave and I also have trouble with my neck area I can't even shave ATG because of a lot of variables I just shave to where it's comfortable and that's it because it I push it I'll end up destroying my neck and giving me razor burn. And one thing I've been doing is start from my chin and it's like a 45 degree towards my ear

Same here. Started in shaving w/straights in March. No blood or no burn anymore so it's good except for the briar patch next to the adam's apple on the right side. Up, down, left, right, obtuse angles, nothing. Don't worry about it now. Still fuss with it momentarily every shave but it just ain't gonna happen. What's the saying, "accept the things I can not change". This seems to be one of them.

Also bear in mind that you'll be the only one that will ever notice.

I understand your frustration. The neck is the bane, well maybe not bane, but the ugly step sister standing in the way of the BBS. Very tight skin stretching is probably the safest approach to getting it better, and in time you'll find some strokes that will also help. One thing that helped me was going back and shaving with my safety razor, without over thinking it, and notice which stroke I used with it to get those problem areas. You may not be able to duplicate them with the straight but you'll have a much better idea of the correct direction you need to try and attack them. The neck takes a little time to perfect, don't lose hope, it'll come.

    Best Regards,

    Howard

Flatten your neck. Turn your chin to side opposite of that to be shaved

That's how I discovered my direction to get BBs under the neck. With the straight is impossible for me to do at this time, at least the normal way (like with the DE). From ear to chin under the neck.

The way I do it is:
turn chin opposite to the side shaving, then
I flatten my neck and cheek as much as possible and
stretch my skin up above the neck and go ear to chin.
That way I cover the skin under the neck with an east to west movement above the neck.

I have been using my DE to go across the neck toward the center on both sides, then feeling for straglers and going after them with the DE. Using both my SR and DE I get a very nice shave. I use the SR in the evening so that I'm more awake and have a little more time to practice, then when I get up in the morning I clean everything up with the DE.
