Thanked: 1My new shaving experiance!!!
So ... I've had some members giving me some advise and had another help me out getting started with practice and such. My first time i went to shave, i planned on only doing a small portion of my face at a time and then finishing off the rest of my face with the disposable razors i had been using ........ Well, I did the small area on my dominate side and went for my old razor. I HAD NONE! So, long story short i ended up doing my whole face with my straight razor on the first time ever using it!! It kinda sucked, but not really at all lol. I actually did really well! I knicked my chin twice (nothing major at all) and kinda roughed up my neck a little (it looked like i had really bad razor rash) and by my left ear (non dominate side) i slid the razor a little and gave myself a really nice deep long cut. Ouch!!! Well not really ouch, cause i didnt realize i had cut my self bad until i noticed the straem of blood running down the side of my face. It wasnt too bad, im just a bleeder lol.
I waited a few days, and tried it again. I felt confident enough that I tried my whole face again. (Im a glutton for punishment i guess lol) this time i had the right pressure and and my angles were getting better. 2nd shave equaled much better results and a lot less cutting myself. Im able to get up a good lather right from the soap to my face (Like I saw Lynn do on his video) but I think i may be keeping too much water on/in the brush, still working that out too but deff getting better.
I have learned that it is almost impossible to use my non dominate hand, but I still try from time to time. All in all I am doing really well and have used my razor probably 8 or 9 times now, and Im getting better and better shaves each time. I thought I would have a problem with the stropping but I dont feel like Im doing it bad. It is hard at first but you learn the motions eventually. I am really enjoying this and love that im getting better and better as I go. It seems like straight shaving is coming to me a lot more easily each time.
I want to give a huge shout out to Jaswarb and Lynn for helping me out by either chatting with me or posting videos. Both of you are AWESOME!!!!!

Thanked: 580Hang in there, gets better and better, using your non-dominant hand will pay off in the end, and is probably good for your brain too, (leftie talking here). My first shave with a straight, i did my whole beard too, didn't cut myself once, but have carved myself up plenty since then. Things that helped me were waiting a couple of days between shaves, at least, to give my face time to heal, and reading what the seniors here have to say. Top bunch of guys.
