Thanked: 884Wouldn't worry too much about a hone right now. Strops can cost as much or as little as you want to pay. There are a few members here making strops that you might want to check into.
BIggest question I've got is whether or not your Dovo was honed by a pro after it left the factory. If it was that's good. If it has but a factory edge on it, it'll feel sharp but more than likely won't be quite ready to give a good shave.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. What Wullie said. It is okay to want to jump in with both feet but learning to shave with a straight first is probably the best way to go about it. Straight Razor Designs has a whole heap of different strops with descriptions of the characteristics of each type of hide. Even if you don't get one from them you'll know more about the options if you read what they say.

Welcome to SRP!
As already said, don't worry about a hone yet, that time will come. Take the time to learn how to shave and and strop first, when you have learned this you can keep your razor(s) sharp for months before they need honing.
You can get a very good strop for less than $50 at several places, just check the ads on the site.
If your razor's not professionally honed you should take a look under Member Services in the classifieds, there's several members that offers honing.
Another good thing to do would to take a look though the Wiki, specially "First straight razor shave"
Good luckNeed help or tutoring? Check out the .
